How to treat cholesterol during pregnancy?

Do you know the cholesterol level of pregnant mothers will increase? It is believed that this elevated cholesterol level is due to the changes of hormone in pregnant mother. The two hormones are estrogen and progesterone. Both hormones level will increase in the liver during pregnancy. Hence, during pregnancy, mothers are advised to control their diet and keep to low cholesterol diet.
Normally, after delivery, the cholesterol level will start going down. Breastfeeding the babies will even help to reduce cholesterol level as it inhibits estrogen.
Ok, how pregnant mothers can control our cholesterol level during pregnancy?
1. Get a experienced nutritionist advice. It is preferable if the nutritionist has lots of experience in working with pregnant mothers. Ask her advice on what food to avoid and get some recommended diet plan from her.
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables that rich in soluble and insoluble fiber. Both types of fiber has been proven to reduce cholesterol effectively. The examples of those foods are whole grains food, psyllium, etc.
3. Choose monounsaturated fats that found mostly in vegetables to replace saturated fats from animal food source. For example using olive oil to cook food is a healthier choice. Drink little avocados can also help to increase good HDL cholesterol and lower bad LDL cholesterol. Please take note that never over drink avocados as it is still contains high fats.
4. Avoid beverage that contains caffeine such as coffee and tea. Drink more soy based beverage that can help to provide plant based protein to pregnant mothers.
5. Take up special designed exercises class for pregnant women. Mostly, there are such classes organized by hospital for pregnant women. You can seek advice from your doctor.
6. Do not over work or working for too long time and it is advisable to sleep earlier to have enough rest time.
